Adult and Leader Training

All Scouts WA Leaders or other Adult Members undertake a comprehensive training program to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfil their role. We call this system the Wood Badge Training Program. The Wood Badge training program is designed nationally by Scouts Australia, to meet the requirements of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM). The training program is developed and delivered by a team of qualified volunteers.

Whether you are a brand new Leader, current Leader, former Leader coming back into the Association, or Rover Scout – Scouts WA will provide you with the training required. This will develop leadership skills to ensure adventurous, fun, challenging, and inclusive programs for all Members.
The training program is designed to provide the knowledge and expertise to develop and recognise the skills of youth or adults that you are leading, as well as growing your own leadership, skills, and knowledge. Adults are trained in leadership and management, program delivery and support, problem solving, creativity, organisational management, and outdoor activities.

Depending on your chosen leadership role you will complete Youth Program Leader Training or Program Support Leader Training. The training consists of a variety of On the Job Phases, On Demand Learning Modules (online) and Face-to-Face training courses.

On Demand Training for Child Safe Scouting, Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) for Scouting, and the Adult Code of Conduct are mandatory requirements for all Adult Members.

We also run in-person courses throughout the year, and would love to see you there:

  • Scouting Essentials and Scouting Adventure Training for Youth Program Leaders
  • Scouting Essentials and Scouting Management Training for Program Support Leaders
  • Scouting Leadership Training for all Leaders completing their Wood Badge

The training calendar includes more details on courses, dates, and how to register.
