Scouts has been around for over 100 years!
Since its founding in 1907, Scouting has provided young people, guided by adult volunteers, the opportunities to participate in programs, events, activities and projects that contribute to their growth as active citizens. Originally only open to boys, with Guiding being the option for girls, Scouting is now inclusive of all genders, and has spread from the UK to almost every country worldwide.
Scouting is everywhere and Scouts WA is proud to be part of a national and global movement!
- More than a billion young people have been through the global Scouting movement in the past 110 years.
- There are over 57 million members in the world today from 176 countries.
- Across Australia, there are over 70,000 members of Scouting.
- Currently, we have about 4,000 youth members
Over the course of the modern Australian program, we provide increasing opportunities for our members to take the initiative with ‘youth leading, adult supporting’ one of our fundamental goals. We provide an experience that is all about connecting with the outdoors, building new and existing friendships, learning new skills, and helping create a better world.
Scouting encourages children to lead from as young as five years old. Members are allowed to make mistakes as they challenge themselves and work out how to be successful in adventures and in life. The older they become, the more responsibility they take for themselves and others.
We put the needs of young people first in a program that adapts to change.
