Our History
The Founder
Scouting began with Lord Robert Baden-Powell (B-P). After an adventurous life in the British Army, B-P ran an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907 with 20 boys. They lived in tents, cooked their own food, and learned through games. This success led to the publication of Scouting for Boys in 1908, which remains one of the best-selling books of the 20th century.
